JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

Thank you for joining our 4  or 6 week beginners salsa course at Christ’s College, East End Road, Finchley, N2 0SE.  We are looking forward to welcoming you onto our dance floor.  Please find below all the information you should need but please do not hesitate to contact us by email or on 07587781288 if you have any additional questions.

Cancellation Policy

Full details are available here.  The main points are:

  • You can cancel/ transfer your course up to 48 hours before your first session free of charge
  • Missed weeks are not refundable or transferable (this is a progressive course and a 4 or 6 week commitment)
  • If you miss one week but come down early the following week we will do our best to catch you up :-)

Covid Safety Policy

Whilst we no longer operate a test to enter policy you can find details of our covid safety policy here.  If you test positive or have any covid like symptoms please do not attend.

Partner Rotation

At salsa nights everyone dances with everyone and we typically rotate partners throughout classes.  In order to become a good social salsa dancer you need to be able to dance with lots of different leaders and followers rather than just one person.  We will never force couples to rotate if they don’t want to but we strongly recommend it in order for you to have the optimal learning experience in a group class environment.  Please have a word with the teacher before the class starts if you feel uncomfortable rotating partners.

Directions/ parking

If you are arriving by car there is plenty of parking on site.  You drive through the main gate which is to the right of the crematorium gates and proceed down the drive to the end (crossing a mini roundabout) where you will find parking.  We are in the main building on the left and you will see a Salsa Here sign outside.

Timetable

The evening will run as follows.

- 7:45 - 8:30 pm partner work class
- 8:30 - 8:45 pm footwork exercises
- 8:45 - 9:30 pm partner work, Q&A and practise
- 9:30 - 11:30pm social dancing (optional)

Additional learning resources also delivered by email each week if you did not opt out of receiving emails.

Refreshments

There is no bar but feel free to bring your own drinks/ snacks.  We will provide tap water but we ask you to bring your own water bottles so we can limit the amount of disposable plastic cups we use.  You are also welcome to bring alcoholic drinks but we ask that you take those bottles, cans etc home with you and do not leave them on school property.

What to wear

The most important thing is to wear clothing that you find comfortable and that you can move freely in.  It doesn’t matter whether you dress smart, casual or glam – everyone dresses how they want to.

There is no need to invest in dance shoes when you first start.  You should wear comfortable shoes that are secure on your feet (eg no flip flops).  Try to wear a shoe that has a smooth sole (ie no grip) as it will help you move, pivot and turn on the dance floor and avoid injury.  Avoid trainers if you can.

What happens at the end of the course

Typically people repeat the beginners course 2-3 times before progressing to the next levels of classes which are drop in rather than course based.  You need to be fully comfortable with all the material covered at beginners level before you advance to the next level otherwise you will disrupt the higher level class.  We firmly believe that good fundamentals and basics are the secret to becoming a skilled dancer.  Investing time at this level means you will progress quicker in the higher level classes.  In order to incentivise this attention to the basics we heavily discount the beginners course if you repeat it.  You will receive more details about this as the course progresses.

I think that is all the information you need to know for now.  You are about to take up one of the most amazing and fun hobbies you will ever have and we are really excited to start your salsa journey with you :-)
